This is one of a series of postcards that my grandparents sent to each other during their courtship and marriage.
Vera wrote:
Hello! Fine trip. Are in sight of land. Thunderstorm coming. Too bad I didn’t “loosh” my lunch. Not yet, but soon. E.V.V.
The postcard was portmarked in South Haven, so assumedly Vera was going on a summer trip to Michigan aboard the Chicago-South Haven passenger ship line.
Note this is the same doomed SS Eastland that rolled over in 1915 in the Chicago River killing 845 passengers and crew.
